Exploring Abstract Composition Through Drawing
In this course students will examine diverse art historical examples such as Kandinsky, Klee, Mondrian, Pollack, Rothko, Krasner, Anni Albers, Agnes, Martin, African American quilt makers, textile designs, etc. These examples will be used to trigger the development of individualistic strategies for composing dynamic abstract drawings. Students will be encouraged to explore a wide range of drawing media and will have the opportunity to incorporate printmaking techniques. There will be an emphasis on discussion/critique and the development of a personal style.

Make Prints, Make Books
This hands-on class will focus on combining simple book structures and beginning printmaking techniques to make small editioned arts books. Easy to learn bookmaking will lead students to understand the formal qualities of the book. Bookmaking demos will include a single sheet book, a one-signature book, and a Japanese stab binding stitch. Collograph, linoleum cut, monoprint, and xeroxgraphic transfer printing processes
will be covered for students to learn how to combine text with image. Selection and preparation of tools, material and papers, printing press operation, editioning and print preparation, cleaning, and shop safety will also be covered in this class. Only non-toxic materials will be used.

Hollow Sculpting
This unique method of sculpting uses a combinationof paper and clay. The paper supports the clay and is removed before firing. The work is ready to be fired and no extra clay cutting is necessary. Beginning with 2 or 3 modeling tools and paper you will learn a new process for producing sculpture. Once the clay is bisque fired, acrylic and metalic paints will be used. Exploring Abstract Composition Through Drawing
In this course students will examine diverse art historical examples such as Kandinsky, Klee, Mondrian, Pollack, Rothko, Krasner, Anni Albers, Agnes, Martin, African American quilt makers, textile designs, etc. These examples will be used to trigger the development of individualistic strategies for composing dynamic abstract drawings. Mixed Media Drawing

Make Prints, Make Books
This hands-on class will focus on combining simple book structures and beginning printmaking techniques to make small editioned arts
books. Easy to learn bookmaking will lead students to understand the formal qualities of the book. Bookmaking demos will include a single sheet book, a one-signature book, and a Japanese stab binding stitch. Collograph, linoleum cut, monoprint, and xeroxgraphic transfer printing processes
will be covered for students to learn how to combine text with image. Selection and preparation of tools, material and papers, printing press operation, editioning and print preparation, cleaning, and shop safety will also be covered in this class. Only non-toxic materials will be used.

Hollow Sculpting
This unique method of sculpting uses a combinationof paper and clay. The paper supports the clay and is removed before firing. The work is ready to be fired and no extra clay cutting is necessary. Beginning with 2 or 3 modeling tools and paper you will learn a new process for producing sculpture. Once the clay is bisque fired, acrylic and metalic paints will be used.
