Students will create prototypes (traditional and non-traditional) for each of the six forms necessary to play chess: king, queen, bishop, knight, rook and pawn. On day two we will duplicate these forms to create an entire set. Options for boards will be introduced.

Papermaking: "Paper Wet to Finished"

Create beautiful and strong papers made from kozo plant fibers. We will learn how to pull a sheet, layer sheets and cut out shapes to expose multiple layers. We will complete a project using this technique that allows light to flow through in different gradations depending on the amount of layering. This project can be geometric or more pictorial but will be a wonderful way to learn a new technique with paper.

This is a complete course in making a quartz watch. We will be using Swiss quartz movement and stainless steel cases with leather or metal bands. This course concentrates on the dial making and the assembling of a quartz watch. Several techniques of jewelry making will be taught. You will learn how to make a watch dial using the technique of Keum-Boo (24karat gold on silver), enameling, image rolling or embossing, several patinas, adding photographs to a watch face and other surface embellishing. Come prepared to have fun, work hard and to leave withseveral watches.
