Going Beyond: Intermediate/Advanced Handbuilding

Students must submit images of work to instructor for review to be admitted to class. 


For the student who has gone beyond the beginning and wants advanced skills and techniques, as well as discussion of work and dialogue with like-minded peers. We will be exploring surafce techniques and treatments, designing technical structures with advanced surface treatments, and studying ceramic chemistry and glazing. If you have a question or an answer, but are afraid to go forward with it, here are solutions. Please bring a finished piece of work to first class, 9" x 12" sketch book and pencil. Materials list available upon registration. Class limited to 8 students.

Course Instructor

Laura Demme

Laura Demme teaches at many Community Art Centers in the area (Main Line, Wayne and Wallingford), as well as at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts. Her work encompasses sculpture using ceramics, concrete and mixed media.  She also works as a painter in oil, encaustic and decorative slip painting.
