Natural Dyeing "Potpourri" Series: Explore the Art of Natural Dyeing

Spring II 2025 Classes / Fibers, Metals, Paper, and More

In this natural dye mini series, you will explore three different natural dyeing techniques on cotton and silk fabrics. First we’ll use an iron indigo vat to dye material after learning shibori resist pattern techniques to make surface design patterns. In our second class leaves and flowers provided will be used to steam botanical prints (bundle dyeing) on silk. The last technique learned will be Hapa-zome (flower pounding) to apply color and patterns on fabric. In the final class, you will learn how to plan, plant, and grow natural dye plants in your home garden.

An additional fee of $15 per student is payable to instructor for dye plants used in bundle dyeing and Hapa-zome.
