Printmaking Workshop Series: Collagraphs and Color

Spring I 2025 Classes / Special Workshops

Instructor Nicole Patrice Dul, M.F.A., will offer a workshop every session that introduces participants to the broad spectrum of non-toxic printmaking techniques. Classes are beginner-friendly and provide hands-on experience with various processes, encouraging creative exploration and personal expression. The key is to blend the traditional and contemporary, the technical and the expressive, to unlock the full potential of printmaking and create new and innovative works of art. Participants will realize printmaking's full potential and produce fresh, experimental artwork.

Spring I Workshop: 4 weeks

The Collagraphs and Color workshop provides an opportunity to explore design elements and principles through textural collage and color printmaking. Over four weeks, participants will engage in three-hour sessions to enhance their skills in adding texture to boards with deliberate design solutions, as well as experimenting with blind embossing, intaglio, and relief printing techniques. Through these printing processes, participants will also learn to master color application in their prints by carefully selecting and mixing safe, wash oil-based inks. Students will create several collagraph plates and prints from them using an etching press. No prior printmaking experience is required; beginners will uncover how various print media can enrich their artistic expression. The workshop offers an extensive selection of supplies, including printmaking papers, newsprint, blotters, boards, adhesives, mediums, inks, palette knives, brayers, tarlatan, and other tools.

A materials fee of $20 will be paid to the instructor directly on the first day of the workshop.

The series continues with new workshops for Spring I and Spring II sessions too - Stay tuned!
